Madison, Connecticut
Madison is located on the Long Island Sound in New Haven County, Connecticut approximately halfway between the cities of New Haven and New London. The town was first settled in 1641. In 2017, The Connecticut Water Company began the Design and Construction of a new 1.3 million gallon (MG) finished water standpipe adjacent to the Town of Madison’s lawn refuse recycling facility. After researching available tank options, the project team at Connecticut Water Company selected an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete tank for the very first time in their 75 year history. The Water Company selected an innovative project delivery method for the project. They elected to first accept sealed bids from tank builders for the construction of the tank structure only. They then solicited sealed bids from general contractors for the site work as well as all other ancillary construction work.
In May of 2018, Preload was selected as the tank builder for the project. The construction team was complete in June 2018 with the selection of D’Amato Construction Company. Constructing a prestressed concrete standpipe always presents some unique challenges. The tight site only added to the overall degree of difficulty. With careful planning by the Construction team, Preload was able to overcome these challenges.
This 1.3 MG Standpipe will provide reliable service to Connecticut Water Company’s customers for many decades to come.
